Often, in Italy, blepharocalasis is associated with dermatocalase or drooping eyelid. In reality, these are different pathologies, with different symptoms and appearance.
Blepharocalase is an episodic inflammation of the eyelids that very frequently tends to affect especially the upper eyelids; much rarer cases in which the lower eyelids are involved.
People with blepharocalase complain of episodic swelling of the eyelids. In most cases this condition does not cause pain although sometimes a rash may appear in the affected area.
