WHAT IS ORIENTAL BLEPHAROPLASTY?
The oriental or Asian blepharoplasty is a surgical aesthetic procedure for creating an upper eyelid fold of Caucasian or Western type (‘double eyelid’) starting from an eyelid without a crease, or Asian (‘single eyelid’). This type of an operation is mostly requested by women, in particular Japanese. The eyes of about 50% of Asian population do not have the classical upper eyelid crease, typical of the white Caucasian race. Not all Asians want a western look, indeed most want to refresh the look and retain its characteristics , which is why i use mini -invasive techniques that allow you to keep the eye cut almond-shaped , but at the same time to open the eyes.
CAN I UNDERGO THE ORIENTAL BLEPHAROPLASTY OPERATION?
The patients with an eyelid without a crease (‘a singular eyelid’) decide to turn to a oculoplasty surgeon:
- Because they wish to have a double eyelid, or better, to create an upper eyelid crease.

WHAT DOES THE ORIENTAL BLEPHAROPLASTY OPERATION CONSIST OF?
- The mini -invasive operation creates an eyelid where it is absent, so that the skin does not overflow over the eyelashes but it finds its place naturally between the eyelashes and the fold when the eye is open.
- The eyelid fold is recreated by unifying two separate anatomical structures: the dermis and aponeurosis of the lifting muscle of the eyelid, the dermis and eyelid tarsus, or aponeurosis and orbicular muscle.
The surgical choice will respect the individuality of every patient, preserving the natural and harmonious look of the face
WHAT SHALL I EXPECT? WHAT ARE THE RESULTS OF AN ORIENTAL BLEPHAROPLASTY?
The oculoplasty surgeon takes into consideration the expectations expressed by the patient and the relation between the eyelid crease and the epicanthix (eye corners) and all the facial structures
The goal of this operation is to enlarge the eyelid crease and obtain a harmonious natural result, attenuating the ‘almond-shape eye’ look typical of the Asian populations. The Asian blepharoplasty allows making the eyelids less heavy and enlarging the eye, increasing the visual field, with evident benefits which are not only esthetical but also functional.
